It's been one of the most talked-about pop reunions in music history, despite suffering numerous blows due to Victoria Beckham and Mel C pulling out of the Spice Girls 20th anniversary gig next summer due to work commitments.
Now insiders tell Closer how the remaining trio – named GEM after members Geri Horner, Emma Bunton and Mel B – may never make it to the stage after a series of heated rows which resulted in Emma threatening to call-off the reunion all together.
Emma, 40 and Geri, 44, were left baffled last week by reports the girls were in talks for a BBC reality show to recruit replacements for Victoria, 42, and Mel C, 42, - which they later found out they had been set up secretly by Mel B, 41.
A source says: "Emma and Geri were confused by the rumours and asked Mel if she knew anything about them.
"Mel admitted she'd been in talks about a possible show but insisted nothing had been confirmed and that she was only trying to take control as she thought if the other girls got involved, it would get too messy.
"Emma was fuming - not just because Mel hadn't told them, but for even thinking a reality show was a good idea when it could turn them into a laughing stock."
