Former Blue singer Duncan James, who currently plays Ryan Knight in Hollyoaks, has opened up about his relationship with his father - revealing he never even met him.
In an interview with the hilarious Tim Ward for his Youtube show
Here She Is, Duncan (who is dressed in an elephant onesie!) explains how his dad left his mum when he was born, leaving her to raise him alone. However, at the age of 25, he made the decision to track his biological father down.
Explaining why he decided to reach out to his father after so long, the Blue singer admitted he always imagined that one day he'd open a newspaper with his dad declaring 'My long lost son', so he decided contact him first: "I said to my mum let's just find him and I want to meet him.
"It has been 25 years I've never even had a birthday card or a Christmas card, I don't even know what he looks like."
After his mum managed to track Duncan's father down and explain that their son wanted to meet him, he surprised her by revealing he'd actaully been at the BRITs the night Duncan and his Blue bandmates had won an award.
How crazy!
Talking about how he felt once they'd made contact, Duncan explained: "The next minute she [his mum] gives me his number she says 'give him a call.' I was really nervous about it - what do you say to a man that's your father that you've never met in 25 years? It was really bizarre."
After he had a conversation with his dad, who suggested they meet up and have a drink in a pub, Duncan revealed how things took a dramatic turn.
"Two weeks later I get a phone call from my press office telling me there's a man claiming to be your father who has sold a story to the Mirror on Sunday.
"So we waited until Sunday came I opened the page, there's a double spread 'my long lost son'. He sold out on me because he was an alcoholic and after that I never got to meet him."
Duncan then heartbreakingly revealed the final twist in their sad story: "I found out last year that he died so I still to this day never got to meet him."
Bless him.
Duncan doesn't only open up about his relationship with his father in the interview. He also confessed that it all started going wrong for Blue after they decided to take a break: "We were over-worked so we got our month off. Well a month turned into a year, a year turned into six/seven years."
However we're sure Duncan's not too sad about the demise of Blue rigt now, as he's currently starring as Ryan Knight in Hollyoaks. His character's having a pretty dramatic time right now; Ryan's been arguing with Ste Hayes, cheating on his fiancé with Mercedes McQueen and will very soon discover his fiancé, Amy Barnes, has died.
