They’d been planning their wedding but Denise Van Outen was left heartbroken after splitting from fiancé Eddie Boxshall following claims he’d been unfaithful.
It emerged last week that devastated Denise, 47, asked trader Eddie, 47, to leave their Essex home two months ago. Reports suggested she’d discovered he’d been swapping raunchy messages with women online and made trips to London to meet someone else.
Taking to her Instagram, she wrote, “It saddens me to confirm that we are no longer a couple. I had to make the difficult decision not to continue in our relationship.” Eddie later posted a picture of a mirror with the cryptic words “When everything is uncertain, everything that is important becomes clear” scribbled on in black pen.

But while Eddie is reportedly “pulling out all the stops” and staying in a room at a nearby pub in the hope he can save their relationship, Denise isn’t short of support, as insiders tell Closer that Lee Mead – who married the star in 2009 before separating four years later and is father to her 11-year-old daughter Betsy – has been a rock. Actor Lee – who has been dating mother-of-one Issy Szumniak since 2018 – has remained firm friends with Denise.
A source says, “Denise is still close to Lee so he was one of the first people she told about what had happened. Obviously Eddie leaving so suddenly impacts Betsy, too.
“Lee was genuinely sorry to hear about what happened – he’d liked Eddie. He has a lot of love and respect for Denise and wants the best for her so has been super-supportive. He’s been regularly in touch to make sure she’s OK.”

“One day I commented that I never understood why a lot of people dive into marriage without ironing out their niggles first because the problems just creep up on them years later,” explained Denise. “That’s when we came up with this fun idea for a podcast series for myself and Eddie, which would involve having counselling to sort out flaws that most people brush under the carpet, before we venture into matrimony.”
The source adds, “Even though this is a horrendous time for her, her friends and family are just thankful she didn’t marry him. Denise is a tough cookie – she doesn’t suffer fools. She’s adamant she won’t take Eddie back. She thought she knew everything about him, so it’s the shock of finding out he wasn’t who she thought he was which is the hardest thing for her.”
