George Clooney was being interviewed by CNN discussing the refugee crisis at a UN roundtable when he was asked his thoughts on Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s recent divorce news.

Yesterday the news broke that Angelina has filed for divorce from husband Brad Pitt after over ten years together.

TMZ reports that Angelina filed legal documents on Monday (19th September) citing 'irreconcilable differences' and has reportedly asked for full custody of their six children.

When being asked by the CNN reporter, George looked confused and asked what had happened between the pair.

After being told they had announced their divorce, George replied in shock: “I didn’t know that. Wow.

“I feel very sorry then. That’s a sad story and unfortunate for a family. It’s an unfortunate story about a family. I feel very sorry to hear that. This is the first I’ve heard of it.”

Angelina’s father Jon Voight confirmed the sad news and revealed he is concerned for his daughter and grandchildren.

Speaking to Inside Edition, Jon said: “It’s very sad. Something very serious must have happened for Angie to make a decision like this.

“I don’t know what it is. It’s a sad thing. Say a little prayer.

“I am concerned for Angie and the children and hopefully I will be seeing them very soon.”

Jon and Angelina have had a strained relationship over the years after he divorced her mother when she was only one-years-old.

But when Ange’s mum Marcheline Bertrand became ill with cancer the pair began speaking again. Sadly Marcheline died in 2007.

Celebrities and fans around the world have also reacted to the news since it broke, and Adele dedicated her New York concert to the pair yesterday, calling it the ‘end of an era’.

Addressing crowds at Madison Square Gardens, Adele said: "Brangelina are broken up!

“I mean, I don't like gossiping and private lives should be private.

"But I feel like this is the end of an era and I am dedicating my show tonight to them.

"I'm really really sad, genuinely. I don't know them personally but I was shocked when I woke up this morning."
