Broken Davina: ‘I’ve spent 10 years trying to save my marriage’

As Davina McCall announces her separation from husband Matthew Robertson, pals reveal the extreme lengths she’d gone to in a desperate attempt to salvage things.

She’s always been searingly honest about how she’d fought to keep her marriage to Matthew Robertson going.

But despite Davina McCall’s desperate attempts, last week she announced her 17-year marriage was over, telling The Sun on Sunday: "I am very sad to say that Matthew and I have separated."

She added that their daughters, Holly, 16, and Tilly, 14, and son, Chester, 11, will remain their "number one priority."

But insiders tell Closer that Davina, 50 - who was spotted house hunting last week - and Matthew, 48, have been struggling for close to a decade, living separate lives for the past year.

A source says: "Davina is heartbroken but she’s also exhausted from fighting so hard to make things work. They’d been trying for a decade but things really collapsed over the past 12 months.

"There was always tension over Davina being the breadwinner. She always tried to ensure Matthew wasn’t emasculated by her success - she wanted to spend more quality time with him but she was wearing herself out and pushing herself too hard."
