Coronation Street actor Rob Mallard has come out as gay, in an interview with Gay Times.

The 25-year-old, who plays Ken Barlow's long-lost son Daniel Osbourne in the soap, came out to his friends and family eight years ago.

He said: "I was very fortunate - I had a very non-plussed family and it's become the subject of warm, friendly general humour over the years."

Just as it should be!

He went on: "I never planned to keep it quiet that I was gay. The only concern I had at first was if I'm with a female character, will an audience who knows I'm gay in real life believe it? But that was just my own fears because I do believe they will."

We don't know about you, but it really doesn't make much difference to us! We DEFINITELY believe this big ole smooch he's going to have with Sinead Tinker next week, in any case!

Yep, you better believe it. Chesney and Sinead have been having a bit of a tough time recently, but that doesn't mean she should go and SNOG Daniel!

Katie McGlynn, who plays Sinead, said of her and Chesney, played by Sam Aston: "They've been arguing. Daniel sees a quirky girl in Sinead and he calls her mysterious and exotic. The situation with Chesney kind of pushes them together.

"They first sleep together in the factory. Daniel needs somewhere quiet to study and Sinead keeps doing overtime at the factory so she invites him to work there.

"It's very passionate. It's pretty saucy! It's very different for Sinead."

So does this mean that Daniel Osbourne will be following his father Ken Barlow and his half-brother Peter down the path to womanising?

We hope so!
