They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, and Coleen and Wayne Rooney are proving this with their new living arrangements.
While Wayne’s new job as the head coach at Plymouth Argyle keeps him in the south west of England, mum-of-four Coleen is staying at home with their children in their £20m Cheshire mansion. Yet insiders tell Closer that the decision not to live together was one made to boost their marriage.
A source says, “Coleen's decision to stay up north while Wayne is in Plymouth was very much in an effort to help their marriage, despite many thinking it could be the sign of them living separate lives.
“She’s a home girl through and through and is happiest when she's in Cheshire. When either one of them is unhappy with the living arrangement, they bicker and their marriage suffers, so this is the best scenario for both of them.”
Coleen, 38, has previously revealed her struggles with homesickness when away from Cheshire and her family – revealing she ‘cried every night’ while living in the States for Wayne’s job as DC United manager.
And the insider adds that, for now, their living arrangements are really working – with the couple in contact constantly to ensure Wayne, also 38, doesn’t feel like he’s ‘missing out’ on time with their sons Kai, 13, Klay, 10, Kit, seven, and Cass, five.
The source says, “They Facetime constantly to keep in touch, so Wayne doesn’t feel like he’s missing out on anything. For now, it’s the best-case scenario. Coleen’s supporting him from afar and tells him how she can’t wait to see him – even planning a surprise romantic getaway for the two of them when he’s next home.”
