As they reunite back in the UK following his stint with D.C United in the US, Coleen and Wayne Rooney’s 15-year marriage appears stronger than ever.

Following years of silence, Coleen finally had the confidence to reveal all in her recent memoir and shared in her October documentary how she had learned to forgive Wayne, 38, and how they had rebuilt their marriage after numerous cheating scandals.

But insiders say that despite being in a great place, Coleen, 37, has slight concerns over Wayne’s return to the UK and to his old friendship circle.

In her book she revealed she believed his pals could’ve helped, saying, “I wish his friends would have stepped in and said, ‘Come on, mate, you’ve had enough’.”

And now a source says, “While Coleen is ecstatic to have him back home, she’s feeling an element of fear over Wayne slipping back into old habits and boozing with his old mates who could lead him astray. While Coleen likes Wayne’s mates, part of her sometimes thinks they don’t have his best interests at heart and egg him on.

“That’s something that’s caused a lot of tension between them over the years. Wayne’s drinking has been a constant issue throughout their relationship and she feels that a lot of his boozing has been spurred on by his social circle.”

In 2002, Wayne admitted to visiting three sex workers, but said he had been “young and stupid”. However eight years later, the football ace once again found himself in a similar situation after embarking on a threesome with another two sex workers – Helen Wood and Jenny Thompson.

Wayne was again spotted travelling in a car with party girl Laura Simpson after a night out in 2017 – an incident Coleen said he “couldn’t understand” after a night of drinking, which led to his drunk-driving arrest.

Coleen again hinted in her book that his misdemeanours had been driven by drink, writing, “If I’d found out he was having an affair or he’d told me he was in love with someone else, I couldn’t have gotten over it, but that wasn’t the case… I sometimes ask myself if he should drink at all.”

However, while his move to the US last year left Coleen to parent their four sons – Kai, 14, Klay, 10, Kit, seven and five-year-old Cass – alone, Wayne proved to be on his best behaviour, focusing on his career and avoiding situations that would get him into hot water.

But following his return to the UK last month, the source says Coleen’s old fears have reared up, and she’s pleaded with Wayne to keep his distance from his partying pals.

The insider added, “She just wishes he had even one or two mates who would tell him when enough is enough and take him home rather than encouraging him to keep drinking.

“She’s confessed her fears to Wayne and told him he can’t make the same mistakes he made before. He’s assured her that he will never go back to his old ways – insisting he doesn’t feel any desire to go on lads’ nights out and has learnt his lessons.

“She trusts Wayne implicitly and can see how hard he’s been trying and is hoping that in time, he’ll make new friends and form relationships with people who truly have his best interests at heart.”
