Coleen Rooney heads home to the UK for the summer holidays – but worries husband Wayne will be lonely back in America
They celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary last week, posting gushing tributes to each other on Instagram.
Coleen Rooney also referenced their “ups and downs”, following a string of recent scandals, including Wayne’s drunken arrest and reports of partying with a barmaid in Florida earlier this year, while former escorts Jenny Thompson and Helen Wood wage war over their differing accounts of their threesome with the footballer back in 2010.
Sharing a sweet snap of herself alongside her 33-year-old husband – with whom she shares sons, Kai, nine, Klay, five, Kit, three and one-year-old Cass – Coleen, also 33, said, “It’s been a journey… Ups and downs, highs and lows… but you know what… I love you.”
And insiders tell Closer how the DC United player went all-out to spoil his childhood sweetheart, in an effort to make up for the last two years – which also included his drink-driving arrest while on a boozy night out with party girl Laura Simpson in 2017.
A source says, “Wayne wanted to go all-out to prove to Coleen just how much she means to him – especially after everything he’s put her through.
He presented her with a book of pictures of them throughout the years – from when they started dating as 16-year-olds to now – as well as hiring a sushi chef to make them a private dinner at home, which they washed down with a bottle of her favourite champagne.

“He also gave her a beautiful ring with a turquoise stone – the colour said to mark 11 years of marriage – which Coleen was really touched by, telling pals she shed some happy tears at how much thought and effort he’d put into it this year.”
Earlier this year, it was reported that the mum-of-four has been “lonely and miserable” since moving to the US with Wayne last year.
And as she prepares to return to the UK to spend the summer holidays at the family’s new £20m Cheshire home without Wayne – who has a jam-packed game schedule over the next couple of months – pals say Coleen’s worried how he’ll cope without her and the boys.
The source says, “Coleen’s really excited to spend some quality time with family and friends back in Liverpool, but she’s concerned and nervous that he’ll feel isolated and lonely on his own – and while she knows he has to work, she feels an element of guilt about leaving him behind.”

Following Wayne’s drunken arrest in 2017 – which prompted Coleen to open up in a candid Facebook post in which she described her husband as “selfish and stupid” – insiders told Closer how the former England captain vowed to make changes, curbing his nights out and being more hands-on with the kids, as well as making more of an effort to be romantic.
But friends say Coleen’s anxious about their upcoming separation causing their marriage to be thrust back under the spotlight.
The source adds, “Coleen’s sick of all the negative attention they’ve had recently, and doesn’t want that all brought back up again once she leaves – and she dreads having their every move watched. They’re in a really good place and she just wants to move on from the hellish couple of years they’ve had and prove to everyone how happy they are."
