As well as being the year of the celebrity baby, it’s also been a great year for mums getting real about the difficulties they’ve faced raising little ones during what’s been a uniquely unstable time.
Opening up exclusively to Closer online in August,TOWIE’s Georgia Kousoulou said, “I feel like no one ever talks about how hard it is. Women have got to stick together and I don’t want to go on Instagram and see a mum that’s just had a baby looking like she’s got her sh*t together. I don’t want to see that.”
Speaking about her “raw” reality show, Baby Steps, she added, “I can’t wait for people to watch it because people are going to be shocked. It’s filmed differently from anything we’ve ever done before.
“If I was a new mum, I’d want to watch it to make me feel better. I wanted the viewer to feel like they were on the journey with us and I genuinely feel like that’s what we’ve achieved.”
Fellow TOWIE alumni Lauren Goodger, who is now single mum to her daughter Larose after welcoming her in the summer, agreed and told us, “Larose is my world and life, but being a mum is definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It’s totally taken over – I’m running on no sleep and just taking it all day by day. I can’t begin to imagine having twins – how on earth do people do it?”
And Big Brother star Kate Lawler was forced to post a heartbreaking defence on social media after trolls accused her of loving her dog more than her daughter.
“Being a mum to a newborn is not the best thing ever right now,” she said. “It’s broken me. I feel as if I’ve been treading water since February 11th and the last two days I’ve felt like I’m at breaking point.
“I’m not coping well mentally and wish I could be stronger for my daughter. I’m not enjoying what I’m going through, yes I’m struggling and you’re right, I am sad behind the eyes because I’ve always taken on new challenges like a duck to water but this one is testing me and I feel like I’m failing.”
