Carol Vorderman has hit out at people who trolled her after her appearance in a segment on The One Show for saying she had a "puffy" face, revealing the sad truth behind it.

The commented on her "puffy" face, and wrote on social media that they were wondering whether Carol had had some plastic surgery to alter her looks.

However, Carol has today hit back at people who criticsed her, and has hopefully made them feel very sheepish indeed after revealing what it was that caused her differing appearance.
Sharing an article written about her face, she wrote that she was currently in San Diego and had just seen what was being said about her.
She called the comments "sad", and explained that the segment had been filmed in early July - only a couple of weeks after the passing of her mum when she was "still grieving badly."
In a second tweet, she wrote: "On medication at the time, no sleep, heartbroken. Face puffy, eyes red and generally looking a mess? Yes. But that was months ago..."
But in a following tweet, she revealed that she was able to bravely rise above the vitriol, writing: "Now fighting fit and full of energy... And in the great scheme of life... So what to it all!!"
She rounded off her tweets with a well-wish to everyone.
In a lovely turn of events, Carol was inundated with lovely and supportive messages from her fans, causing her to tweet another heartfelt message.
This comes after Carol bravely admitted on Lorraine Kelly's show that going through the menopause had wreaked havoc on her mental health.
She explained: "I was powering on doing this and that and building houses and flying a plane and bringing up my kids by myself and all of those different things.
"And then this depression hit me and I don't use the word depression lightly, this was a blackness where I would wake up - nothing else in my life was going wrong.
"I'm a very lucky woman, no money worries or nothing like that - and I would wake up and I thought, 'I don't see the point in carrying on. I just don't see the point in life. I don't see it'."
Thankfully, Carol was able to reach out for help and recovered from her illness.
