Carol Vorderman has announced the sad news that her mum, Jean, has passed away
Carol Vorderman's mum Jean has passed away after a battle with cancer at the age of 88.
Carol announced Jean's terminal cancer diagnosis on Mother's Day on Twitter, writing: "A precious Mother's Day x This wk Mum & I found out she has terminal cancer. She'sbeautiful inside and out & I love her beyond measure x.”
The TV personality waited until her mother's funeral to share the news of her passing with her fans.
She posted on Twitter yesterday afternoon to announce the sad news, writing that she and her family and friends had laid her mum to rest.
Carol wrote: "Some days are tough, today was one of them. Today was my amazing Mum's funeral.....❤️ Rest In Peace Jean Vorderman. You will always be loved."
She immediately received hundreds of messages of support, including from her I'm A Celeb! jungle mates Scarlett Moffatt and Adam Thomas, as well as Davina McCall and Gabby Logan.
Ex-Corrie actress Shobna Gulati and Loose Women panellist Kaye Adams also sent their best wishes, as did many of Carol's fans.
Jean, whose real name was Edwina, was given the terminal diagnosis three months ago just before Carol announced it on Mother's Day.
Carol revealed that Jean had previously battled three different types of cancer in the last 12 years including skin cancer and kidney cancer as well as a tumour on her ovaries.
Jean and Carol both spoke to The Mirror about her diagnosis, with Carol explaining that Jean was being very stoical about the whole thing: "She refuses to let us be sad so we are taking our lead from her."
Jean herself added: "Now my family and me will concentrate on being happy and celebrating the time we have together, I'm refusing to let them be sad."
This comes after Carol revealed her recent battle with depression as a result of going through the menopause.
Speaking to Lorraine Kelly on her show, she described it as a "blackness" despite not having anything outwardly wrong in her life: "I'm a very lucky woman, no money worries or nothing like that - and I would wake up and I thought, 'I don't see the point in carrying on. I just don't see the point in life. I don't see it'.
"There was no reason to feel that way and the only reason I didn't do anything, and I've not admitted it before, is because I had two children."
Our thoughts are with Carol and her family at this difficult time. ❤️
