News has just broken that iconic British entertainer Bruce Forsyth has died aged 89

Bruce Forsyth - who entertained Britain for over 75 years - has passed away at the age of 89.

In recent years Bruce had stepped out the limelight due to health concerns and had not been seen in public for some time.

In 2013, Bruce stepped down from his role presenting Strictly Come Dancing, then in June 2016 it was reported he was too ill to celebrate his wife Wilnelia's birthday, and in February this year he spent five nights in intensive care after being diagnosed with a severe chest infection.

Bruce - who was born in London in 1928 - took to the stage aged just 14, and rose to the top of the UK entertainment game, presenting iconic TV shows such as The Generation Game, Play Your Cards Right, The Price is Right and Strictly Come Dancing.

Just minutes after his death was announced, tributes flooded in from fans and celebrity friends alike.

A statement released by his manager, Ian Wilson, read: "It is with great sadness that the Forsyth family announce that Sir Bruce passed away this afternoon, peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife Wilnelia and all his children.

"A couple of weeks ago, a friend visited him and asked him what he had been doing these last eighteen months.

"With a twinkle in his eye, he responded "I've been very, very busy... being ill!" Unfortunately, not long after this, his health deteriorated and he contracted bronchial pneumonia.

"The family would like to express their thanks to the many people who have sent cards and letters to Bruce wishing him well over his long illness and know that they will share in part, the great, great loss they feel.

"There will be no further comment at the moment and it would be much appreciated if the privacy of Sir Bruce's family is respected at this most difficult time."
