Just 14 months after tying the knot in an intimate ceremony, Britney Spears and husband Sam Asghari are reported to be divorcing.
The couple, who have been dating since 2016 when Sam was hired in one of the star’s music videos, are said to
have split earlier this month following an explosive row during which Sam is said to have confronted Britney over cheating allegations, allegedly with a member of staff who worked at their home.
Reports also claimed that Sam had told friends that Britney had been physical with him, once giving him a black eye – something she has neither confirmed nor denied.
When news of the split emerged, Sam broke his silence and confirmed the break-up, adding, “S**t happens. Asking for privacy seems ridiculous so I will just ask for everyone, including media, to be kind and thoughtful.”
It is not clear whether the accusations had any truth behind them, but Sam is now reported to have moved out of the mansion he shares with Britney in LA, with a US publication later revealing that the actor has filed for divorce, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.
Just two months ago, Britney, 41, and Sam, 29, were photographed looking loved- up while on a romantic boat trip in Cabo, Mexico. But, according to sources, the couple had been struggling for months and were forced to deny split rumours in March when they were both spotted without their wedding rings.
A source says, “Britney and Sam have had ups and downs throughout their relationship. They have a lot of love for each other, but they also argue a lot over fundamental issues. Recently, things took a bad turn and their arguments became more serious and real.”
And while Britney was forced to endure a highly-publicised and incredibly personal court trial when she went head to head with her father, Jamie Spears, over her 13-year conservatorship in 2021, the mega-star could now be set to face another gruelling legal battle.
Reports have suggested that while Britney and Sam have a prenuptial agreement, Sam could contest this – with both parties already having called in high-profile divorce lawyers.
Britney is believed to have hired Laura Wasser – the legal mastermind whose clients have included Kim Kardshian, Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Garner and Gwen Stefani. She also previously represented Britney in her custody battle against her ex-husband Kevin Federline in 2008.
But a US source says that Sam, who was reported to have contested the pre-nup ahead of his marriage to Britney last year, is threatening to reveal Britney’s ‘secrets’ unless she amends that pre-nup.
The source said, “[Sam is] attempting to negotiate concessions beyond his pre- nup and has indicated he could go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney otherwise.”
