She marked the end of her “abusive” conservatorshipwith her first ever glass of champagne last week, but Britney Spears is said to be intent on seeking vengeance against those who controlled her life for the past 13 years. And now, pals fear the fragile pop star may prolong her agony by dwelling on the past.

A source tells Closer, “While Britney’s friends are horrified by what she’s been through, they are worried that launching a high-profile case against her family is going to stir-up more pain and trauma. They fear her bid for revenge could ruin her freedom and everything she’s been dreaming of for so long.”

Last week, Britney, 39, said her family “should all be in jail” for their role in the guardianship, while a member of Britney’s legal team reportedly said the singer was “confident,” “ready for vengeance,” and no longer afraid of her father, Jamie Spears.

Jamie, 69, was given control of the singer’s £60 million fortune and personal life following her breakdown in 2007, but in June she asked a court to end the “abusive” conservatorship, claiming it forbade her from having her contraceptive coil removed, despite her longing to start a family with her fiancé, Sam Asghari, 27.

Britney also told the judge she wanted to sue her father for “conservatorship abuse,” and insiders say the star has instructed her legal team to launch an investigation for financial mismanagement.

A lawyer for Jamie said he had always acted in his daughter’s “best interests” and added, “He loves his daughter and only wants the best for her.”

But it’s feared that digging up the last 13 years in a drawn-out court battle could take an emotional toll on the star, who has also claimed that her mother Lynne, 66, and sister Jamie Lynn, 30, were involved in making her life “hell.” It’s reported the singer has been refusing to see her mother in recent weeks – claiming it was her “church-going mom” who was responsible for thinking up the conservatorship in the first place.

Jamie Lynn has since hit back, saying, “If ending the conservatorship or whatever the hell else she wants to do to be happy, I support that.”

“Sam wants nothing more than for all those who were involved to pay for the trauma they have caused Britney,” adds the source. “But he also thinks the best revenge she could inflict is to go on and enjoy her life – marrying him, having more babies and making up for all that lost time they stole from her.”

During her bombshell testimony in court this summer, Britney shocked the world when she claimed how draconian the conservatorship had been. She claimed she wasn’t allowed to marry, spend money without permission to even buy a coffee or paint her kitchen cupboards without her dad’s say-so.

As well as lashing out at her parents, the singer also appeared to hit out at her sister Jamie Lynn for not helping her. When Jamie Lynn penned an Instagram post about her sister’s freedom, Britney took to her own social media to say, “There’s nothing worse than when the people closest to you who never showed up for you post things in regard to your situation whatever it may be and speak righteously for support … there’s nothing worse than that.”

She added, “It’s the little things for us women but it makes a huge difference. And I’m grateful for that. It’s really nice.”

When Britney’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, announced outside the LA courthouse that the conservatorship had finally been terminated, hundreds of supporters burst into cheers. And Brit tearfully spoke about how grateful she was to be allowed to do things that many take for granted, such as “being able to have the keys to my car”, “owning an ATM card” and “seeing cash for the first time”, as well as “being able to buy candles”.

Britney, who shares sons Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15, with her ex, Kevin Federline, 43, also shared the jubilant scenes outside court on her Instagram. Understandably emotional, she gushed, “I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day! Best day ever… praise the Lord.” And later, Sam shared videos of the couple dancing in their car on the way to a dinner date, where they celebrated her newfound freedom.

Vengeance aside, as Closer recently revealed, Britney also wants to cement her liberty by trying for her “dream” baby girl as soon as possible. The singer confirmed the story last week, posting a picture of a child and writing, “I’m thinking about having another baby! I wonder if this one is a girl.”

Now, with her 40th fast approaching, pals say she isn’t wasting any time. The source adds, “Now that she’s legally free, she can’t wait to start trying for a baby. She’s even hoping it might happen by the time she celebrates her milestone birthday next month.”
