Perry Fenwick has played Billy Mitchell since 1998

The beloved Billy Mitchell could be leaving BBC's EastEnders and we're not sure how we feel.

Over the years, we've seen poor old Billy fall in love with Little Mo even though she was married to evil Trevor. He went on to marry Honey and the pair welcomed their daughter Janet into the world but struggled after they discovered she has Down's Syndrome. Viewers watched the heart-breaking moment Billy hid in the bathroom while Jay's dad Jase was brutally murdered but since then he has been supporting Jay following all the drama with Linzi.

Actor Perry Fenwick who has played the Mitchell character since 1988 has now hinted that his time at the BBC show may be up. Next year, EastEnders will celebrate their 20th anniversary but it seems that Billy Mitchell might not be on the square.

Perry explained to Woman's Own magazine: "I joined in 1998 so I’ve been on EastEnders for 19 years but I’m not sure if I’ll still be there for my 20th year.

"It’s up to the bosses. They’ve got to offer me another contract.”

Errr, what would Albert Square be without Billy Mitchell there?

The 54-year-old actor added: "It would be strange not being there. I had a good career before I was there but that was two generations ago. I’ve been at EastEnders for so long."

We know Perry, we know.

In the last 12 months we've said goodbye to Peggy Mitchell after she committed suicide following her battle with cancer, the Mitchell sisters after they tragically drowned on Ronnie and Jack's wedding day and we almost said goodbye to Phil Mitchell while he was battling liver disease (luckily he survived though).

Before playing the infamous Billy Mitchell, Perry appeared on Inspector Morse, The Bill, Casualty AND he appeared in the music video Block Rockin' Beats for The Chemical Brother.

Who knew?
