The last ever series of Great British Bake Off, on BBC1 with Mary Berry that is, is coming to an end very, very soon.

After trying his very best at patisserie week (even though he didn't even practice his palmiers), Selasi Gbormittah lost his place in the tent - leaving Candice, Jane and Andrew to battle it out in the final.

However, one baker's final week in the tent was hinged with sadness, as Jane Beedle suffered the devastating loss of her father.

A source revealed to The Sun that he passed away unexpectedly just days before the end of GBBO:

"Jane and her family are absolutely buzzing over her success on Bake Off but have had to put the BBC show to one side for now.

"Jane's father's health took a turn for the worse and sadly passed away last week."

Even though Jane soildered on, the source added that Jane was understandably heartbroken at the loss of her father: "The whole family are grieving and it's had a big impact on Jane particularly. She was very close with her dad.

"Even though it's the Bake Off final next week Jane wanted to make sure she was there with her family to clear his house and go through the belongings. It was a really emotional time."

Janer herself took to Twitter to hint at the news, sharing a photo of herself and her brother on a break away in France:

"With my, not so little, brother in France. It's lovely to see him but it's a shame it's in sad circumstances. Fun to watch #GBBO together."

She also shared a throwback snap of her mum and dad's gorgeous wedding cake:

"Mum and Dad's wedding cake. Now must get back to work or I'll not get anything done."
