One brand that got serious about diversity and inclusion in their shops were Superdrug.

Back in 2016 they launched their Shades of Beauty campaign, with a commitment to offer more diverse beauty options by only stocking foundation ranges with more than 20 shades.

Earlier this year the retailer launched another campaign Shades Of You with the aim of ensuring representation and progression remains at the centre of the brand. The new campaign that started in April 2021 and will continue into 2022 was built on consumer insights and research findings.

During the survey they found that over 35% of people from Black and mixed-heritage backgrounds nationwide do not feel represented when they shop for health and beauty products in high street beauty retailers.

They also found that Black and mixed-heritage consumers cannot easily access beauty products that are suitable for their skin and hair types on the high street, with 41% finding it difficult to find make-up shades that match their skin tone, and more than 1/3 finding it difficult to find skincare products that meet their needs.
