What Is The Met Gala 2019 Theme?
The Met Gala is infamous for its long-standing tradition that's been in place the '70s, where each year's ball is themed. The Met Gala 2019 theme is 'Camp: Notes on Fashion', which is framed around Susan Sontag’s 'Notes on Camp' essay. In this essay published in 1964, she details what exactly 'camp' is. According to the Met Museum, discusses how 'elements of irony, [humour], parody, pastiche, artifice, theatricality, and exaggeration are expressed in fashion'. This concept can be construed in different ways, depending on how guests interpret it, but you can certainly expect to see some daring, outlandish outfits.
Last year's theme was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, which was dedicated to the often uneasy relationship between fashion and religion.
