If you haven't stepped outside recently, you might not know that it is EXTREMELY WARM.

With some parts of the UK reaching a sweltering 35 degrees yesterday, and even nighttime temperatures dropping to just 25 degrees, you're not alone if you're struggling through the latest August heatwave.

You might be able to just about cope throughout the day with iced drinks and staying the heck away from the sun, nighttime poses a whole new set of keeping cool challenges.

Thankfully, we've found a game-changing solution for keeping cool in bed using an unexpected household object.

Yep, as you may have guessed, it's a hot water bottle. You might not associate this cosy winter staple as your best pal during a heatwave, but trust us, you're wrong.

Instead of filling up your trusty hot water bottle with water from the kettle, fill it with cold water and stick it in the freezer for 10-20 minutes.

It's HEAVEN to have in bed, and it works best when you put your feet on it as you're going to sleep.

This is because you lose heat the quickest through your extremities (feet, hands, head), so the quickest way to cool down is by cooling these areas first.

Having the cold hot water bottle at the bottom of your bed will help your whole body to stay cool, especially if you're sleeping under just a cotton sheet instead of a duvet.

Other ways to keep cool at night during a heatwave

Once you've got your hot water bottle hack sorted, you're probably going to need some backup. There are lots of things you can do before you go to bed and even during the night, so here are some of Closer's top tips for getting a good night's kip during a summer heatwave.

Take a cool shower or bath before bed

Keep hydrated during the day with plenty of water

Invest in a good fan or air conditioning system

Keep some cool face mist or flannels nearby for your wrists and face

Sleep under a cotton sheet
