My husband is very critical of me. We’ve been together for 12 years and have two children but we don’t have much money, so I know he’s stressed. Why take it out on me?

Psychologist John Gottman identified four warning signs that say a relationship is headed for disaster. Constant criticism was one of them. Eye-rolling, sighing, making snide comments – these are things you expect from an enemy, not your partner. Explain that his put-downs hurt you and, while you understand he’s stressed, you’re someone he loves and you expect him to treat you accordingly.
