I bad-mouthed my friend’s boyfriend when he dumped her, only for her to take him back. She’s now telling me I wasn’t supportive and won’t talk to me. Do you agree?

Ailsa, by email

In order to justify her taking back someone she probably realises she shouldn’t, she’s forced to discredit what you said. She’ll be sobbing on your doorstep when it all falls apart again (when you will listen kindly).

Send a card saying you thought you were being supportive but trust in her judgement and miss her friendship.
