There’s something magical about waking up to horses galloping along a seven kilometre stretch of coastline right from your bedroom balcony. To rub it in further – picture the birds chirping, the sun shining, and the beach free of tourists. With the rain back and stronger than ever, you may be thinking where this paradise is exactly because it’s certainly can’t be England. Search: Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort in El Jadida Morocco.

From private surfing lessons on perfectly rolling sets to afternoons lounging by the pool and spa, I was lucky enough to spend a weekend at this stunning five-star resort to see what all the hype was about. If this sounds like a little bit of you (or your bestie’s dream winter vacay), then you won’t want to miss this review.

Crank up the heater and treat yourself to a nice English cupper because this may take a few minutes.

The Resort

Located a short distance (roughly an hour by car) from Morocco’s largest city Casablanca, the Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort is a renowned holiday destination for those after a peaceful and luxurious escape – away from the hustle and bustle.

Boasting 500 rooms and suites only accessible to resort guests, 15 carefully curated restaurants, a large swimming pool smothered by palm trees, North Africa’s largest casino and an 18-hole golf course designed by legend Gary Player – it’s one hell of a place and only just stretches across 250 hectares of Morocco’s Atlantic coast.

And, it doesn’t just stop there. From the interior design to the 24-hour concierge service and all the other little details that add to the experience (like seamlessly connecting to the resort’s WIFI on the drive from the airport), there’s a reason why the resort has five-stars next to its name.

Also, did I mention there’s a kids club? That’s right – your kids will receive world-class service, too.

The Restaurants

Being a foodie myself, I genuinely was very impressed with the variety of different cuisines the resort had to offer. Whether you’re after a family-friendly burger to-die-for at the Beach Barbecue, Moroccan cuisine or perhaps, a fancier evening meal at Sel De Mer, there’s something for everyone all within 10-minutes reach by foot.

My favourite had to be lunch at the Buddha-Bar Beach restaurant purely because I love my Japanese cuisine (especially when it’s extremely fresh), and the presentation was beyond beautiful. Accompanied of course by the most delicious selection of cocktails.

Don’t forget too that the breakfast buffet at Olives is included in the price of your stay. Aka, it’s on the house and certainly does not disappoint. The crepes topped with juicy tropical fruit had to be the winner for me.

The Sports, Activities & Spa

If you’re wanting to scale up your resort experience (and the beach, pool and casino isn’t enough), there’s plenty of extra activities that you can book to keep you entertained.

When I was there, I put my name down for the one-to-one surfing lesson (thanks to my Australian roots), the horse-riding on the beach and the quad biking. There was also bungee jumping, zip-lining, stand-up paddle boarding and many more on offer – but you would need a week to tick all of these off.

Not to mention, the gorgeous spa facilities where I was treated to an aromatherapy massage followed by a traditional Moroccan tea in the relaxation area. There’s also a gym on the grounds (positioned right next to the spa) which burnt off a meal or two.

If visiting local towns (and of course, Morocco’s renowned markets) is of interest, there are a few not far from the Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort. My favourite being Azemmour – very authentic, artsy and full of friendly locals.

My Verdict

For just £272 for accommodation and with breakfast included, you could stay in one of the resort’s gorgeous Garden View Rooms for two-nights over a weekend. Affordable right? Pricing may fluctuate depending on the time of the year you decide to travel, however I would recommend visiting the resort in the shoulder seasons. Not only will the temperature be a little more enjoyable, but you will also be able to make the most of all the extra (non-included) activities whilst you’re out there.

To conclude, would I spend under £300 on accommodation to live like an A-lister at a five-star epic resort for a weekend? I think you know my answer.
