21-year-old Josh Price told off two teenage girls who were reportedly ‘bullying’ his niece and nephew at the Trinity Park, Ossett, West Yorkshire, but was confronted by two men.
The men got out of a van and attacked Josh, punching him and kicking him in the head.
Josh was rushed to hospital and needed life-saving treatment before being put into a medically-induced coma following the attack on May 3.
His injuries include a blood clot on his brain, and the attack also caused him to have a stroke which has left him paralyzed down the right side of his body.
Doctors at the hospital are reportedly ‘unsure whether or not Josh will ever fully recover’.
Speaking on his son’s injuries, Josh’s dad said: “As a parent you never expect to see your child like that. We are all numb and in total shock. We’re barely functioning as a family.
“Josh’s children need their dad, they’re asking where daddy is and we can’t answer them. It’s devastating. We need the people who did this to Josh catching.”
Police have appealed for witnesses of the brutal attack on the young father, with Detective Inspector Paul Harrison, of Wakefield CID, saying: “A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident but has been released on police bail.
“Our inquiries are ongoing and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this vicious assault.”
