We all know that too many sugary drinks are bad for you, but one young mum is learning this lesson the hard way after her Red Bull habit made her seriously ill.
Lena Lupari, 26, spent £450 a month on Red Bull and drank nearly 3,000 calories from the drinks, but excessive sugar intake made her brain start to swell.
Lena- who is from County Antrim in Northern Ireland- collapsed in June when her symptoms worsened.
Doctors discovered that she was suffering from Idiopathic intracranial hypertension as a result of her weight gain from the fizzy drinks. Her swelling brain was putting pressure on her optic nerves which was starting to affect Lena’s sight.
She told the Mail Online: “I’d been suffering from migraines and headaches for about five years but I just ignored them and took painkillers.
“Then my vision went and I couldn’t even lift my head off the bed and I ended up in hospital for six days.”
Lena has now cut out Red Bull from her diet and has since lost an astonishing two stone. Doctors say she must lose a further five stone in order to control her symptoms.
