Erik de Vries and Josephine Egberts were torn apart in 1999 when their parents split.

Erik’s father took him to live with him in Belgium, while Jospehine stayed with her mother in The Netherlands.

“The first time I swiped her profile I had absolutely no idea"

The pair eventually wound up losing track of each other - until recently, when they (awkwardly, in retrospect) both swiped right on Tinder.

Speaking with Mic, he said: “The first time I swiped her profile I had absolutely no idea.

“To be honest, it hasn’t been on my mind in the past few years after Maarten, my brother, and I finished a failed search for Josephine a few years ago.”

He added: “In our first conversation I was actually flirting with her so the conversation was very superficial.

“[But] In our next conversation, I started to get some clues and figured she might actually be my sister.

“This kind of shocked me, so I decided not to contact her for a few days.”

No kidding - we’d have been a little lost for words too!

Eventually Erik’s curiosity got the better of him and he wound up contacting Josephine again.

After a long chat about their pasts, the pair soon realised that they truly were brother and sister.

Cue them arranging a face-to-face meeting… and there’s no denying that it was a very special moment for both of them.

"When I saw him, it was suddenly very clear," Egberts, now 22, told Datingsite Kiezen.

"It was so special to see my own blood brother again after 16 years."

We guess Tinder can add “reunited long-lost siblings” to its growing list of success stories, eh?
