Bozena Nowak, 43, was mugged as she made her way to her factory job in a nearby town.

The pregnant woman’s husband, Jerzy, was forced to leave his young children at home as he rushed to the bus stop to help his wife.

The shock from the attack is thought to have caused Bozena to lose the couple’s unborn baby.

Jerzy told The Mirror: “We moved to England because Poland is no good. We arrived three years ago, looking for a better life, but this has hit us hard.”

“When we arrived she could not stop crying. We saw one of them nearby and split up, then tried to chase him, but he got away. It’s lucky they did – if I had seen that guy I don’t know what I would have done afterwards."

“Maybe I would have killed them. My wife had my baby as well.”

He then added: “When I saw my wife on the street she was crying. I have never seen her crying like that since her dad died.”

Speaking about her ordeal, Bozena said: “Everybody was happy we were having the baby, we had only just told everybody back at home and they were delighted for us. Nobody is happy any more.”

Police are now hunting the woman’s attacker following the horrific crime.
