Next time you suffer from menstrual cramps, spare a thought for 23-year-old Sophie Loader.
The mum-of-one from Essex has a rare but painful condition, causing her to suffer from excruciating ‘labour’ pains when she has a period.
Sophie has two wombs but one vagina- a condition known as uterus bicornis- and when she menstruates her second womb shockingly becomes filled with blood.
The pains reportedly mimic that of a full-time baby.
She told The Mirror: “I’ve been in labour more than 100 times, but only once for real. To say that it's a pain would be an understatement.
"It might shock women to hear I have been in labour more than one hundred times.
"When I was 13 and the contractions started, I had never felt pain like it and couldn't understand what was happening to me, it was terrifying - even the doctor thought I might be pregnant."
Sophie gave birth to two-year-old son Chase through C-section, meaning she is unable to compare her ‘labour’ period pains with delivering a baby.
She has been hospitalised numerous times to help her cope with the agony of her symptoms.
Doctors could only resort to teaching Sophie breathing techniques to help her cope with the pains, similar to those that women practice whilst giving birth.
Sophie now has the contraceptive implant, which means she only has to suffer from the ‘false’ pains 4 times a year rather than every month.
Suddenly our stomach cramps don’t seem so bad after all!
