But tragically for Melissa Carleton, she has not yet been able to meet her son, as she is in a coma after suffering a massive seizure.
Melissa gave birth to the boy via C section, after going into a coma 10 weeks ago because of the seizure.
Doctors say that the woman went into a coma after a benign brain tumour caused her to seize. They are hopeful that she will be able to wake up and reunite with her husband and son.
Melissa's husband Brian said: 'I know that being able to love this little guy is going to be a wonderful experience, but I also know it's going to be very hard for me to know that I am going to be the one to hold this baby first.'
But her father, John, said he is looking on the bright side of the situation - telling ABC News that the child is everything Melissa has ever wanted.
'She's wanted to have a child for years. Today, I can't begin to tell you how happy we are. It's indescribable.'
And according to the family, Melissa is showing more signs of consciousness than ever, with her hugging her husbands face to hers in recent days.
Melissa originally learnt she had a brain tumour when she went to the ER with terrible headaches, and was soon left unable to walk short distances without getting tired.
In March she had a seizure and was rushed for surgery on the benign tumour, and she has not woken up since.
