The pregnant mum-of-two spotted the white, jelly-like object in the bottle of vinegar bought at Tesco just one month earlier.

She told Wales Online: “I cannot believe it - there is something growing in my bottle of vinegar.

"It looks like it’s got a head.”

Thinking of her children, who had eaten some of the vinegar, she added worriedly: “I would like to know what this thing is, we’ve eaten some of the vinegar!"

Eleri, of Alltwen, Swansea, returned the bottle back to the Tesco store in nearby Pontardawe - and staff were disgusted by what they saw.

“The staff in the store were heaving when they saw it. They did not know what it was.”

She was given a full refund and a bunch of flowers as an apology.

COULD THIS BE THE MOST INAPPROPRIATELY HILARIOUS DRAWING A CHILD HAS EVER DONE?

But, thankfully, it seems as if the 'alien' was in fact a naturally forming substance known as 'the mother' - nothing to do with 'the mother ship'!

In fact, it is a carbohydrate produced by the harmless vinegar bacteria reacting to oxygen in the air.

It's rare to find it in store bought vinegars, as they are usually treated before they reach shops.

However, if one slips through, it is not harmful; you simply have to filter it to remove the slimy substance.
