Sophie Rosser, 23, returned to the block of flats where she lived with fiancé Oscar Silva, 28, in August last year to find that it was ablaze.

Miss Rosser, who had been attending a party in Chelsea that evening, phoned her partner from the Isle of Dogs flat to tell him to get out - then rushing into the building to try and raise the alarm.

Her body was found on the fourth floor, with her fiancé later having to watch as they tried to revive her.

Sophie was dropped off at 1.37am on Sunday morning. She called her fiancé and flatmate to alert them to the fire, but the pair found they could not get out into the hallway because it was full of smoke.

Heading back to their flat, Mr Silva said he phoned Sophie back at 1.43 but found there was no answer.

Fireman Joseph Carter described how there was 'zero visibility' on the fourth floor and the area was extremely hot.

'After about 10 seconds of entering the lobby I felt Sophie's foot with my hand. I shouted "casualty" "casualty" until I knew my colleague knew I had found someone.'

He added that the smoke was so thick it would have overcome her in a matter of seconds.

Grace Adong, a neighbour who left a damp towel over a lamp which then caught fire - banged on the doors of everyone on her floor to alert them to the blaze.
