Megan Huntsman, from Utah, was discovered when her estranged husband found one body in the garage, which led police to find six others.

One of the children had been stillborn, but the others were killed deliberately by the mother.

The bodies of the children had been wrapped in towels and put in boxes in the garage, then some sealed with electrical tape.

Huntsman admitted she strangled and suffocated the children - that were born over a ten year period from 1996 to 2006 - because she was addicted to methamphetamine and didn’t want to look after them. She added that she had lost count of the number of kids she had.

Attorney Jeff Buhman said that the case was a ‘heinous’ one, that highlighted the dangers of addiction.

‘They lose touch with the core goodness and controls that we build up,’ he said of drug users.

He added that he hopes for a sentence which will mean Huntsman will never leave jail.
