Germany are expected to welcome up to 800,000 refugees fleeing war-torn Syria to their country this year.

This week, in one day alone, Germany opened its borders to 10,000 refugees. Munich and Berlin have greeted the newcomers with food, clothes and cheers of welcome.

And in this video, the touching moment a young girl gave food to an arriving child not much older than her, was caught on camera by NBC's London correspondent Cassandra Vinograd.

Uploading the now viral video on vine, Cassandra commented:

'This sweet moment... A young German girl and a newly arrived young refugee'.

Germany has taken in the largest number of asylum seekers so far, with Chancellor Angela Merkel calling on neighbouring countries receiving German-funded EU subsidies to help shoulder responsibility.

In the UK 216 Syrian refugees have been resettled in the UK and almost 5,000 Syrians have been granted asylum since the start of the humanitarian crisis, with the government announcing its intention to allow 20,000 refugees into Britain over the next five years.
