From tea-tree oil to salicylic acid, every face wash, moisturiser and serum claims to clear up your blemishes and leave you with a glossy, glowing complexion.
But for those of us constantly struggling against those pesky pimples, we know that seldom is this actually the case.
Now, the latest research from skin experts says what we should actually be putting on our faces is, well, urine.
Martha Christy, author of Your Own Perfect Medicine, says that massaging urine into the face can be massively beneficial - due to its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.
Not only does Martha suggest massaging the liquid into your face, she also says gargling with it, or putting some in your ears can be good for you.
But Martha is not alone.
In the 18th century women in France would take urine baths to boost their beauty, and even Madonna has said she has previously peed on her feet to prevent athlete’s fot.
‘Urine is like an antiseptic, it’s all got to do with the enzymes in your body.’
Can’t face the idea of rubbing urine on your skin? Why not try a urea cream - which helps break down dry skin and pus, and is recommended for everything from eczema to acne and psoriasis.
