The actress took part in Operation Underground Railroad, a volunteer organisation that helps bring about the arrests of child sex traffickers.
Holden travelled with the group to Cartagena in Colombia and helped local authorities capture 11 traffickers, and more importantly help free 55 young girls.
Some of the girls freed- who were sold into sex slavery- were as young as 11-years-old.
The operation was led by former CIA agent Tim Ballard, who once specialised in child-sex trafficking cases whilst working with the US government.
Holden became involved in the project after discovering the horrendous plight of child prostitutes whilst visiting Colombia.
The group went undercover as a bachelor party visiting the popular tourist destination. Ballard acted as the ‘groom’s best man’ who was pretending to hire the young girls in order to get the traffickers to bring them to a rented house.
Ballard then filmed the traffickers so that police could arrest them.
The actress’s duty during the undercover operation was to keep the young girls occupied in the pool area of the house whilst authorities arrested their captors.
Whilst filming with ‘The Walking Dead,’ Laurie Holden was trained by Navy Seal, which made her feel ‘confident’ that she could take care of herself in such a dangerous and volatile operation.
