The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, heard his neighbour’s alarm sound as the intruders broke in and attempted to scare them off.
His heroic actions were caught on CCTV and, thankfully, nobody was hurt.
Speaking to the Manchester News, the 49-year-old said: “I banged on the door shouting ‘get out, you scumbag’, and I tried to open the door but it was locked. So I ran round the side of the house and kicked the gate open and as I came round the corner I saw there was three of them.”
But even after seeing he was very outnumbered, and realising they were armed, the man didn’t back down.
He added: “One of them had a big sharp kitchen knife and another ran at me with a hammer.
“I stood my ground and they shot off. When you look back at the video it’s quite frightening. When they’ve got a knife and a hammer and it’s three against one you’ve got no chance, but you don’t think that at the time.”
