The fire raged through the AIG Campus in Houston, Texas, but firefighters bravely battled to rescue a construction worker from the flames.

And a YouTube video shot by an onlooker has perfectly captured the daring rescue.

The clip, uploaded by user Karen Jones, was shot from a nearby building, where people watched in growing horror as the man sought refuge from the blaze on a top floor balcony.

But, as the fire continued to spread, his situation grew increasingly desperate.

The unnamed man dropped down to a lower floor in a stomach-churning moment, as firefighters rushed towards hi with a mounted ladder.

It was time for a very literal 'leap of faith' - and, as the man flung himself towards the ladder, the building behind him was ripped in half by the ferocious fire.

Did anyone else find themselves gasping aloud at that dramatic rescue?

The Houston Fire Department have told The Chicago Tribune that the fire was "under control" two hours after it started, with all workers accounted for and no injuries reported.

More than 200 emergency personal responded to the apartment complex fire, the cause of which is now under investigation.

Another video uploaded on YouTube (above) and taken from further away shows the extent of the fire.

We are so glad that construction worker got out safely!
