The brave schoolgirl has now taken to Facebook to thank her rescuers, writing: "Can't believe I'm alive, could've died today, it's a miracle I haven't lost my leg.

"Got my thigh jammed between the platform and the Luas this morning. No words to describe how thankful I am to all the people that picked the Luas up in order to get me out."

The lucky 16-year-old said she wasn't on the tram but was rushing by to catch a bus, when she tripped and fell over.

She wrote: "I was in a hurry to get to my bus and I had my earphones in, so I didn't hear it coming, I only when it was right in front of me."

"I panicked and tripped over- it was right in front of me, and I scrambled onto the platform but my leg slipped and I didn't make it in time.

"My leg got hit by the Luas and got stuck in between the platform and the Luas up to the very top of my thigh.  I slid with the Luas for a meter or two, and then I couldn't move."

"The people were so helpful and got me a bag to lean myself on as I was stuck with my leg sideways.

"I was there for about 5 minutes. The people then started pushing the Luas, and then they could drag me up after a few minutes. They saved my leg- or my life."

Grateful Maja also revealed that she will be off her feet for a while, writing: I'm not able to walk for a long time now, but that's nothing compared to what could have happened.

"I was given loads of painkillers in the hospital and injections, and had to have a few stones removed from my leg as well.

"It's a miracle that I haven't lost my leg.  Death was also a possibility as I could've bled out to death if my flesh ripped open."
