The video shows baby Alyssa Guarino snuggling up to Nay Nay, a 10-year-old snake.

After watching the 13ft snake slithering over the tiny tot, many horrified viewers began accusing Alyssa’s dad Jamie Guarino of putting his little girl in danger.

One wrote fiercely: “These parents need to be arrested!”

Another added: “One day that snake will see your child as food. Please - I don’t want to see that on the news.”

Burmese pythons are among the six largest snakes in the world and, while they don’t have fangs, are capable of overpowering and killing a fully-grown adult.

However Jamie - who has been working with snakes since his teens - has now defended the clip, which was originally shared on YouTube in April 2013.

Speaking from the heart, the father-of-two has insisted his daughter was in no danger during filming - and that snakes are loving pets, which have an unfair reputation due to their appearance.

Jamie is not alone in this belief; looking at comments beneath the original video, many have sided with him, insisting that snakes are no more dangerous to babies than cats or dogs.

One viewer wrote: “Snakes make great pets and, with supervision, are great around babies.”

Another added: “People, if you think a little, even dogs can kill babies… but snakes are usually docile and calm pets.”
