If you’re anything like us, you probably have boxes upon boxes of old VHS tapes gathering dust in your garage, up in the loft, or, you know, in boxes under the bed.
But, as it turns out, you could be sitting on an absolute GOLD MINE!
That’s right, Will Thomas - aka the managing director at LoveAntiques.com has gone on record to tell us that our old video cassette tapes are now considered to be antiques.
Gulp - anyone else feel mega old right now?
Anyway, because they’re antiques (double gulp!), they’re actually worth a lot of money nowadays… depending on which video it is, of course.
Speaking to The Mirror, Will explained that ‘certain VHS tapes have increased in value over the last 50 years or so’.
Describing them as ‘antechs’ (aka antique technologies), he added that our once-beloved VHS collection could be set to “command thousands of pounds on account of their rarity”.
And they’re only going to get more valuable over time.
To the loft, everyone!
However, before you get too excited, it’s worth pointing out that you need to look for the rarer video tapes, rather than the old Disney films that everyone probably owns on cassette.
And old school horror movies - particularly the more gruesome and absurd chillers - seem to be where all the money is in the antech business.
