Vegan Anita Kranjnc filmed her encounter with the pigs and their driver in June this year, showing how she gave them swigs from her water bottle before they were carted away.

The footage, taken in Toronto, shows Anita saying: ‘If they are thirsty. give them water.’

Responding to her request, the truck driver says: ‘You know what? These are not humans, you dumb frickin’ broad.’

But Anita, despite just attempting to give the pigs a little humanity before they were slaughtered, is now facing prison time after being charged with criminal mischief.

Following a pre-trial meeting this week, Anita slammed the charges.

‘It’s an outrage. It’s insane to charge somebody with criminal mischief for doing that,’ she said.

The issue is one close to her heart, as Anita is the co-founder of Toronto Pig Save, an organisation that raises awareness of the last moments of animals’ lives.

Pigs on their way to the slaughterhouse often froth at the mouth with dehydration, something which the organisation believe is inhumane and wrong.

After the charges against her were announced, Anita said that her act was one of compassion, and that she would face them with ‘dignity, knowing that truth and justice are on my side.’
