This weekend, the UK is at risk of being hit by a winter blast that could see temperatures dropping to -10C, and be leaving us with plentiful snow.

Three inchs of the stuff, to be precise.

All the way down to south Wales and into the Midlands, sleet and snow is predicted to be with us by the weekend, setting us up for a frosty Valentine's Day.

It's down to a twist in the jet stream bringing in icy winds from the Arctic.

Leon Brown, forecaster for The Weather Company told the Mirror: "The forecast has a changed a bit for later this week with the jet stream a bit further south and hence Atlantic weather systems keeping further south."

He explained that there will be widespread frost and possible snow tonight into Friday morning.

And a clash between a cold easterly flow from Scandinavia and milder Atlantic air may lead to plumetting temperatures over the weekend.

After Storm Imogen struck the UK on Monday - with winds up to 100mph and leaving some homes without power - this is another batch of extreme weather for us Brits.

Brr! Time to bring out those thermals...
