UK weather: Heavy showers to bring cold start to summer holidays

It might be the start of the summer holidays, but it seems as if the weather didn’t get the memo.

Yup, while we’ve all been busy planning trips to the seaside and park, it seems we may all have to prepare some fun indoor activities for our little ones, as heavy rains and strong winds are predicted to be on the way.

Speaking with The Mirror, The Weather Channel’s Leon Brown said: “The UK is under the jet stream next week which will keep us in the track of any Atlantic depressions.

"It looks like a series of Atlantic low pressure systems will cross the UK later next week and through to early August so we can expect a changeable and sometimes quite windy weather pattern.

"Temperatures will be up and down from day to day, but often cool over the north and nearer normal in the south."

His words echo that of Chris Burton, who, in his report for The Weather Network UK, said: “It looks like the weather we have seen through June and early July is likely to continue throughout the rest of summer.

“This means northern and western areas will continue to see the worst of any cloud and rain with fairly cool conditions at times, while further south and east it should stay drier with brief bursts of warmth at times.”

He also warned the north to brace for chilly autumnal temperatures and gales of 55 to 60mph tomorrow and Saturday morning.

So, all in all, a rather soggy start to the summer.

Fingers crossed for a bit of sunshine, eh?
