Warm weather from the Continent is going to send the mercury soaring to the mid thirties this week, as the temperature becomes hotter than Greek island Corfu, tropical paradise Hawaii and sunshine state Florida.
But while many of us will be reaching for the sunnies and heading to our nearest sun trap, health experts have warned that vulnerable people could suffer greatly in the warmer weather.
People with breathing and heart conditions are to be especially cautious, while the old and infirm are also advised to be extra vigilant during the next few weeks.
Malcolm Booth, the chief executive of the National Federation of Occupational Pensioners, says very hot weather is just as lethal as extreme cold.
‘Often the focus is on the cold weather which kills thousands, but extreme heat can be just as dangerous.’
‘It is important to keep an eye on vulnerable friends and neighbours and to stay inside during the very hot weather.’
Booth suggest helping them with shopping, and checking in on them is very important during the hotter weather, as well as advising them to stay in the shade as much as possible and get plenty of water.
