The South Coast and eastern parts of Scotland have been put on alert as forecasters predict downpours and storms over the coming days.

Following a severely humid and hot spell over the weekend, storms and showers are set to break the warm weather, bringing with them lightning and floods.

The ‘Spanish plume’ which brought hot weather up form the continent, saw temperatures hit the high twenties and early thirties over the weekend, but that is not set to stick around.

And after heavy rain hit most parts of the UK at some point on Sunday, experts are predicting we’re in for more unsettled conditions in the coming week.

Weather Network experts said:

‘A very unsettled week for the UK as we head towards the end of August as frequent areas of low pressure pass close to the country.

‘Southern areas will often see the wettest weather as pulses of rain continually push up from the south-west, with some thundery downpours possible at times.

‘Across northern areas of the country there will be some rain at times too, but here there should be some sunshine between the showers at times.

‘The disappointing weather is thanks to the jet stream, which will pass directly over southern areas of the UK this week, steering one area of rain after another across the country.

‘Temperatures will also be disappointing for late August with temperatures generally in the mid to high teens.

‘It looks like remaining showery into the weekend, but hopefully there should be some sunshine between the showers for most of us making it feel slightly warmer.’

And we’ve only just put away out wellies!
