If you were hoping that August might spell out summer climes, you were sadly mistaken.

It’s going to remain just as chilly, windy, and showery.

Chris Burton, meteorologist at The Weather Network, told us: “An unseasonably deep Atlantic low will dominate the UK’s weather at the start of the new working week, bringing cool, windy and showery conditions to much of the UK.

“Western areas will see the most frequent showers through Monday and Tuesday, with winds gusting over 40mph in western Scotland and Northern Ireland.”

The seasoned forecaster also issued a warning about British beaches, insisting that the unseasonable weather could render them unsafe for many.

He said: “Large swells of the Atlantic will also bring some big waves to western coasts, leading to rather dangerous conditions on the beaches during the peak of the school holidays.”

However there is SOME hope for a warmer summer.

Chris explained: “Through Friday and into the weekend, there are signs of a more widespread spell of dry and settled weather as high pressure tries to build from the south-west.”

He added, somewhat less encouragingly: “But confidence is low at this stage.”

Hmm. Guess we’d best look out for woolly jumpers and welly boots, eh?
