Just as a million Brits take off for their holiday abroad, the sun has decided to shine down on the UK – for a week at least.

The mercury is set to reach 25C today with sunny spells for most of England and Northern Island but cloudy and humid elsewhere.

Tomorrow is an even hotter prospect, with the Met Office predicting 32C in London and 33C in Birmingham.

So it’s time to don your hula skirt in celebration of better weather than Honolulu, Hawaii!

The rest of the country will enjoy hours of sunshine with slightly lower temperatures as the clouds clear.

Liverpool and Manchester will reach 30C, with 27C in the North East and 25C in Scotland and Northern Island.

Tourists heading for Spain, including the Canary Islands, are still set for amazing weather. But the UK’s hot spell comes at an inopportune time for those braggy Instagram pics and postcards back home.

Chris Rees, a forecaster for PA WeatherCentre said: "It does sound incredible, but we only get these temperatures for a few days, whereas they get to keep it all year round."

Experts at Meteogroup suggest Tuesday may be the hottest day of the year so far.

A spokesman said: "It will stay warm and humid on Wednesday but with some thunderstorms. Thursday will be fresher with sunshine and showers."

The Association of British Travel Agents expects more than 275,000 holidaymakers to depart from British airports during the next 48 hours. For now, there are no major delays or industrial action set to dampen our spirits.

But if transport fails, you can still shimmy into your bikini out and enjoy a sun-filled staycation.
