Kidsncancer, a charity based in Derby, has agreed to fund the proton beam treatment for the five-year-old brain tumour patient, who is currently hospitalised in Spain.

Charity chief executive Mike Hyman told ITV news that they have been ‘’inundated’ with donations for Ashya King and his family.

“It will take at least a £100,000, and probably a £150,000 to pay for the treatment as well as the cost of accomodation for the months of the treatment for the family. It is our wish that they come back from wherever they go they are not in debt, and can return to their normal life.”

Seriously ill Ashya was removed from a UK hospital by his parents when they decided to seek the proton beam treatment, a treatment that they consider to be more successful and less damaging to their child.

Brett and Naghmeh King were subsequently arrested and accused of child abuse after they flew Ashya to Spain, where they planned to sell their holiday home to fund the treatment.

Ashya’s parents have since been released, but their movements are still being restricted by red tape.

Mike Hyman continued: “The situation they have been through is absolutely appalling. To be imprisoned like criminals, 300 miles away from their sick child is disgraceful and disgusting.

“I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the public, who obviously feel like we do that this family deserve support at this desperate time.”

Ashya is currently being treated in a hospital in Malaga.
