Two killed in horror smash as car drives wrong way down M1

Ahead of the crash, police had received reports of car travelling the wrong way along the southbound carriageway near Kegworth.

Sadly, before the car could be stopped it smashes into a blue Mazda carrying the elderly gentleman and the white Ford Transit van.

The southbound carriageway and one lane of the northbound are closed between junctions 25 and 24, and is expected to remain this way for most of the morning

One man trying to get through this morning said that all routes are gridlocked, while other said it had taken them hours longer to reach their destination.
