Two British medical students killed in Borneo

Two promising medical students have been stabbed to death in Borneo, local police have confirmed.

Neil Dalton and Aidan Brunger lost their lives on the Malaysian island following a row with locals at a bar.

The boys were based at Newcastle University and were on a six week placement at the time of their deaths.

The 22-year-olds were drinking in Kuching, Sarawak, and had gotten into an argument with local men while in a pub as they were being too noisy.

Reportedly after they left the establishment, the locals pursued them in a car and one got out and attacked the two men. Four suspects have now been arrested.

Newcastle University's acting vice-chancellor Tony Stevenson said: 'This has come to a huge shock to us all and our thoughts are with their families and friends at this very difficult time.'

Two members of staff are now flying out to Kuching to co-ordinate the return of the other five students currently abroad.
